President Herzog Addresses Memorial Ceremony for Fallen Soldiers of the First Lebanon War

President Herzog: “I say this here to all the nations of the world: Do not grade us; help us with decisive action. What is needed is maximum pressure on all of Hezbollah’s wings, all around the world: sanctions, designation as a terrorist organization, and, of course, determined military action which must come first and foremost by the Lebanese Armed Forces.”

On May 31, 2026, President Isaac Herzog addressed the memorial ceremony for the fallen soldiers of the First Lebanon War (Operation ‘Peace for the Galilee’), held at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

President Isaac Herzog:

“Today, it is clear to all that Hezbollah is not only an enemy of Israel. Hezbollah is an obstacle to the peace that can and must exist between Israel and Lebanon. As I say to world leaders, including to the Prime Minister of Canada in our call just a few days ago, Lebanon will not attain freedom and peace through words, but through clear and resolute action against Hezbollah, which has been strangling the people of Lebanon for decades.
“I say this here to all the nations of the world: Do not grade us. Help us with decisive action. What is needed is maximum pressure on all of Hezbollah’s wings, all around the world: sanctions, designation as a terrorist organization, and, of course, determined military action which must come first and foremost from the Lebanese Armed Forces. That, and only that, is how we will achieve peace.”
